How to: Update the Flash BIOS.
Solution:
Update the Flash BIOS by following the accompanying instructions to capture old BIOS information on RESTORE diskette, and install the Flash BIOS Upgrade. Run the BIOS Setup and follow the instructions to enter new values where appropriate.
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard! Make sure the power is turned off and the external power cables have been disconnected before removing the computer cover.
CAUTION 1: This task should be performed by a qualified computer technician.
CAUTION 2: Improperly updating the flash BIOS chip will make the computer unusable.
CAUTION 3: Please observe steps to reduce the potential damage to computer components from electrostatic discharge.
NOTE 1: Updating the flash BIOS will require that BIOS setup be run to configure the system hardware. If you did not know have a hard copy of the current BIOS settings, DO NOT REMOVE the flash BIOS, and contact next-level support or a qualified computer technician, before proceeding any further.
NOTE 2: You must have your computer's user manual to complete the following steps.
1) Obtain the flash BIOS chip update software from a hardware vendor via modem or diskette.
2) Read the installation instructions accompanying the software upgrade.
3) Format a diskette to be used to hold the current BIOS information. (This RESTORE file will permit you to retrieve the old BIOS information if the update causes system problems.)
4) Run the upgrade installation program.
5) Run the BIOS Setup and follow the upgrade instructions to enter new values where appropriate.
6) Reboot the computer and use appropriate applications and peripherals to test required changes in the BIOS information.
7) If you have problems, contact the hardware vendor that provided the Flash BIOS Upgrade for assistance.
8) If problems persist, use the RESTORE function provided with the upgrade, to restore the old information to the BIOS.
